I think it is a security issue because my husband put the alarm on with the drivers side door unlocked with the keys in the ignition. Can you tell us how to reverse whatever he did.

After sitting for a period of time, usually over night, the key fob does not unlock the doors. After opening the door with the key the dome lights are not on. The engine will not turn over yet there is dash lights. Cycling the key many times does nothing. Waiting and suddenly the dome lights will come on and truck will start.

Good evening.

I would start by cleaning the battery cables real well of all corrosion. It sounds like low voltage.

Also, I would load test the battery.

Do you have a voltmeter to check the actual battery voltage?

Yes, it was 13 something I believe. When the dome lights do finally come on, it cranks over like a champ.

Okay, you have a connection issue somewhere.

Check the wires at the fuse block and inside the truck by the ignition switch.

Did not say to do that. I said to check for power to it. Nothing can work without power. You need to verify powers as you are losing power somewhere.

It was a recommendation from a local garage after two trips there and several hundred dollars for them to tell me they could not find anything wrong, but maybe try a new fuse block. There is 12 volt power to the fuse block.

Okay, what was the exact voltage? That is critical.

You are going to have to do a wiggle test. What I mean by that is when it will not start, you need to move wiring around until you get a full connection and it will start. That will try to narrow the area of the bad connection. Look at the junction block that goes through the firewall as well.

It seems like the area around the steering column lacks power when the "no start" issue happens. The door locks, rear door windows, dome lights, blinkers, flashers all do not work. The radio ( although not the steering wheel controls) climate center, headlights, wipers ( but not the delay) power mirrors, front door windows all work. The "not working" things do work however when the no start issue happens.

Did you grab some of the harness and move them around to see if you can get your power back?

This is sounding more like and ignition switch issue.
