Battery discharges after every stop. Gets driven at highway speeds over 30 mins. Twice daily. Tried charging and still won't stay charged. Want to change battery to new one, but can't find it.

You can use another battery if you want more problems, this model car the dealers are converting them to agm batteries and need to reprogram them to a different charging rate. If you use the same battery you still need to register the battery change in the cars computer via a professional scan tool so it can be charged properly

You alternator is only gonna charge what the computer tells it to charge. It will make no diff on what battery is in the car. As long as you put the correct vented battery back in you wont have any problems.

It actually makes a great deal of difference when charging rate algorithms are selected and it is a $300 glass mat battery that can have it lifespan curtailed by not registering the battery upon replacement. Trust me on this, I didn't believe it either, until BMW sent me to E-65 school.

How are you getting 920 cca? That requires a professional load tester, but it's a test for the capacity of the battery. A discharging battery is due to a failed charging system. To verify that you need to measure the battery voltage while the engine is running. It must be between 13.75 to 14.75 volts. If it is low or is staying near 12.6 volts, the generator is not recharging the battery while driving.

I have been experiencing crackling noises over the speakers and GPS and radio cutting in and out. Also the idrive toggle will not have the same resistance when I go to use it right after starting the car. After driving all systems seem to come back. Battery was tested and voltage was 10. My mechanic (not a BMW tech) says the battery isn't holding a charge and needs to be replaced because of age. Can the problem be anything else like a short or something?

The battery will need replacing, check all earths and the alternator output, the battery does not have to be a BMW genuine unit, just as long as it is the correct size for your car.
