Nothing lights or works and the auxiliary for the stereo has a loud whine. What could be causing this?

Hey C3OP,
This problem is caused by one of two things, either the stereo is going out or you have an alternator diode that is leaking ac voltage into the system please follow this guide and let me know what you find.
For the ac unit check the system fuses in the fuse panel
No functions - as to air conditioner cluster controls, is there a fuse or a way to narrow down what the problem is? My wife's got that look on me. Help!

What you should do first is scan the vehicle for trouble codes. These trouble codes can tell you exactly what is going wrong with your vehicle. You can buy or rent this scanner from any auto parts store.
If that does not yield any answers check under the hood in the fuse box. Open your manual and look for any fuse labeled "HVAC Control" or "AC Compressor" anything to do with the AC system and check that fuse. If the fuse is blown replace it and see if your problem persists.
Please let me know what happens.

If all these are ok, you may be low on refrigerant, this will have to be checked by a tech with the appropriate SA/C manifold gauge set, if you suspect low refrigerant, do not add gas your self as over fill will also cause problems, there is an exact vamount of refrigerant added to the system
