engine idle rpm?

I have purchased a toyota avensis D4D TR 2.0 2008. Just noticed the rev counter at Idling speed showing 1000rpms, is this normal? Also, when i turn on the heating it shoots up to 1200 rpms! your help will be much appreciated.

Ut sounds like the throttle actuator is dirty causing the computer adjust the idle. Here is a guide to help you see what you are in for when doing the job.

Right on the money! I cleaned the bore it was filthy BTW and now she runs great. I installed a set of spark plugs as well. Thanks for the help.
