2008 Toyota 4Runner Backup Camera Problem

I recently installed an aftermarket stereo (Jensen VX7020) and backup camera (Pyle PLCM37FRV) on my 2008 Toyota 4Runner. The backup camera works, but I have to select the camera option on the stereo in order for the video to be viewed. The camera does not automatically switch on when I put the vehicle in reverse, which is what I want it to do. I have been searching online for answers and have tried all the tricks I have read about. I have made sure the wires are connected correctly and checked them with my multimeter to ensure the 12v is being generated when vehicle is in reverse. I was wondering if you have experienced anything like this before? If so can you please give me some advice on what to do to make the camera switch on automatically?

After market mod can be tricky to work out, not having a wiring schematic to work with on the car is very hard, I would suggest that you get an auto electrician to take a look first hand as a first hand inspection may show up something that you have missed.

I have the same problem on a Silverado with one difference. When I wire the backup camera signal wire to the backup light hot wire the camera does come on automatically when I put the transmission into reverse...which is what it is suppose to do.... BUT nothing else works. If I try to the menu or anywhere else I just see a blue screen. After disconnecting the signal wire from the backup hot wire and manually selecting backup camera and put the truck into reverse the backup camera works.x I suspect this is a security system issue because when I press the remote unlock on the truck the day lights and backup lights illuminate.

Thanks for the feed back, trying to nut out one of these after market add on problems can be a real pain,with out original wiring schematics, i hope your info is of help to the other member.

*Update
So I figured out why my backup camera was not coming on automatically when I put the vehicle in reverse. There was an extra wire, it was pink on my head unit connector, that I needed to connect to the reverse wire next to the steering wheel. The reverse wire was light green on my 2008 Toyota 4Runner. This wire is different from the reverse light wire that I connected the backup camera to.
The installation instructions for the head unit and the backup camera left this step off. Luckily I was able to do research and figure this out.
Backup camera is now working as it should!
