Rotor will not come off. Is it necessary to remove what appears to be a torx retainer? The torx is very rusted and tiny and nearly stripped. Is this also necessary on the front rotor? A rubber plug is mentioned but when removed cannot tell what to do inside, if rear park brake is somehow holding.

Is the rotor loose at all? The rubber plug is removed so you can adjust the parking brake. There is a star bolt in there that you can turn with a straight edge screw driver. You need to turn it to losen the parking brake shoes. Then the rotor should come off as long as you have the caliper removed.

This vehicle has rotors and pads, not shoes on rear. I'm more concerned with the torx bolt that seems to be holding the rotor on, in spite of having caliper removed, penetrating oil soaked in and lots of rubber mallet persuasion.

Sir, it has both shoes (for the parking brake) and pads for stopping on the rear wheel. There is a retainer bolt that holds the rotor in place. When you remove it, you will find the parking brake shoes ride in the rear of the rotor. I attached the only picture I could find to show you where they ride in relationship with the rotor. In the picture, the inner drum is being measured. That is where the shoes will be.

I DO NOT KNOW YOUR VEHICLE

OR WHAT HAS TO COME OFF

I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH TORX---JEEP CJs ARE COMPLETELY MADE OUT OF 'EM

I REPLACE 'EM WITH BOLTS---IF AT ALL FEASIBLE, IF YOU CAN GET 'EM OUT AND THEY ARE DAMAGED---REPLACE WITH NEW ONES---IT WON'T HAPPEN THE NEXT TIME!

I AM GONNA MAKE YOU A SPECIAL PIC--JUST FOR YOU--ON HOW TO REMOVE 'EM, IF YOU AIN'T TORE 'EM UP YET!

GIVE ME UP TO 20- 30 MINUTES---I'LL HAVE YOU A GREAT TECHNIQUE, THAT I USE.

BACK IN A JIFFY!

ALL RIGHTY THEN

IT'S MIDNIGHT THIRTY

I'M MY OWN DEMONSTRATOR AND PHOTOGRAPHER

I'VE GOT TWO HANDS, SO BEAR WITH ME

THE "NELSOMATIC" GET RID OF TORX FASTENERS IMPROVISED IMPACT WRENCH METHOD

READY TO PLAY?

PIC 1) INNA HURRY, I GRABBED A ALLEN BOLT TO DEMONSTRATE WITH

PIC 2) THIS RUSTY OLE TORX FITS IT WELL--A SOLID TORX SOCKET WORKS BEST

PIC 3) GRAB IT WITH SOME VISE GRIPS HARD!----PUT SOME PRESSURE ON IT---++++++++++WE ARE NOT TRYING TO FORCE IT/ TURN IT OUT!++++++++JUST SOME HARD PRESSURE!

PIC 4) MY HAND SHOULD BE HOLDING PRESSURE (I HAD TO TAKE THE PIC AND HOLD MY HAMMER TOO)---GOOD HARD--PERPENDICULAR BLOWS TO THE TORX SOCKET (NO LOVE TAPPING)----YOU WILL LEARN HOW MUCH PRESSURE AND HOW HARD TO HIT, AS YOU DO THIS!

PIC 5) THIS ONE WAS TOO MUCH PRESSURE (JEEP CJ DIFF COVER) EVEN BROKE OFF, SOMETIMES THE WILL FIT BACK IN. BE PREPARED TO USE MORE THAN ONE SOCKET, UNTILL YOU GET THE HANG OF IT

NORMALLY 4 OR 5 GOOD WHACKS AND SUDDENLY YOUR PRESSURE HAND WILL FEEL IT BREAK FREE. BASICALLY WE ARE MAKING/ USING AN IMPROVISED IMPACT WRENCH. THEN YOU CAN USE THE RATCHET TO SPIN IT ON OUT

RETURN WITH GOOD NEWS!
