Valve cover grommet replacement

Hello,

I am doing a valve cover replacement on the car listed above similar to a Chevrolet Malibu V6 3.5, and during this I have noticed the valve cover bolts are locked to the valve cover with a little round cylinder (see picture).

How am I supposed to replace the grommet?
How would one go about removing the bolt if needed?

Note: I have 2 valve covers (both front). One is missing a bolt and grommet (see picture) The other needs new grommets (see picture).

Unfortunately these are not meant to be serviced. They come on the new valve cover. See the picture of the new cover. They say that if they come out you need to replace the valve cover.

I am sure if you do some internet searching you may find someone that has replaced them successfully, but the valve covers are not that expensive so whenever I have run across this on different vehicles, I just replace the cover.

What?

Then why do they sell the grommets independently at most auto parts stores, and online. I’m sure there is a way to get them out, but as you said it probably is easier buying the entire valve cover.

Do you know of a good place to purchase this?

How would I go installing what looks like the PCV valve maybe? The plastic part which connects to a quick release hose to the intake I believe.

Take a look at the attachments. The PCV should come with a molded hose attached to it and the actual valve will come with rubber gaskets that will seal it and hold it in the valve cover. The part number in the second attachment is what the manual shows as your PCV.

Well, I ended up giving in and just bought the valve cover from the dealer. (See diagram). These aftermarket websites do not guarantee nor show that the plastic part to the PCV comes with it (see pic from GM parts direct website).

I took the metal plate off, and there’s no way I’ll be able to take that plastic piece to the PCV off without breaking it.
Also, there's no “grommet” really, as I took a screw driver and a knife but still couldn’t pick at anything.

The dealer claims they sell the entire thing - valve cover, grommets, bolts, and PCV valve together when this situation happens.
Be warned readers, because it was an expensive “mess up” or perhaps GM just makes shitty cars with no thought on how to fix them.

One last question.
Do you happen to have the torque specs for the valve cover bolts?

No problem. I attached the page but it is 10 Nm or 89 inch pounds.
