My rear defroster shuts off my radio, why?

whenever I turn on the rear defroster the radio shuts off, bad signal had been suggested, but I will do it where there is full signal.

What do you mean "shuts off" the radio? Does it lose power or just sound output? DO you hear static in AM, FM, or both?
