I just purchased a 2008 Maxima SE with 30k miles. I notice a bracket in the undercarriage next the exhaust. It seems to be there on purpose but it purpose is not obvious. What is this bracket and what is it for. It seems low to the ground compared to other undercarriage with my concern being hitting the ground etc.

If it is tight, I believe it is to prevent hitting the exhaust if you bottom the vehicle on rocks or something.
