2008 Mazda Other engine

My 2008 mazda cx9's engine sound like it is running high and needs to shift past 4th gear or about 40mph. The tacometer is reading fine, and digital reading says it is in 5th or 6th gear. It sounds like this even when in manual (its a slap stick) mode.

Seems like the engine is too noisy and could be due to many factors. The noise could be emitted by the exhaust or air intake system. It could also be from th engine.

What is the tachomemter showing at this time?

While the engine sounds like it needs to shift, it is only reading between 1 and 2.

If the rpm is only showing lower than 2k, why do you say it feels like it should be changing gears?
