Do I change the complete steering wheel or .....?

Accessories control on steering wheel stopped functioning & airbag warning light is on. Smartbox scanning returned "Driver's frontal crash third air bag squib open circuit" Workshop recommends change of airbag but I am sceptical. please advise

its what we call a clock spring (spiral cable )that need to be replaced
and not the airbag
