Need specific numbers to evaluate the charging system. Start by measuring the battery voltage with the engine running. It must be between 13.75 and 14.75 volts. If it is, or if it's even a little high, have the charging system professionally load-tested. If all the generator can produce is exactly one third of its rated output current and "ripple" is very high, it has a defective diode.
