overheating

My car is overheating, the exhaust manifold is glowing red. The exhaust doesn't seem to be restricted and the coolent level is fine. what could it be?

Are the cooling fans working?
If lower radiator hose is much cooler than upper radiator hose when overheating occurs, most probably the thermostat is bad.

The exhaust glowing red hot indicates excessive unburnt fuel is being dumped there. Check for a misfiring cylinder. Vehicle should be running with lack of power and that could mean a bad head gasket as indicated by the overheating.
