IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?

THIS IS THE 1ST AND MOST IMPORTANT STEP!

IF SO, YOU NEED TO HAVE IT CODED, WRITE DOWN THE CODE NUMBERS. YOU CAN POSSIBLY HAVE THIS DONE AT A POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORE FOR FREE.

I'M NOT REALLY AN AUTHORITY ON NEWER JEEPS....I DO WELL WITH CJs.....SO, I IMAGINE THERE ARE MANY POSSIBILITIES, THAT MIGHT NOT SET OFF THE LIGHT.

THRU PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH MY WIFE'S FORD ESCAPE, I TOO, LEARNED THIS WHEN CHASING DOWN A SKIP......MAYBE 10 POSSIBILITIES, FROM OTHERS, EVEN HERE....TURNED OUT TO BE A COIL PACK ON #6 (HAD TO NEARLY DISASSEMBLE THE TOP END, 3 DIFFERENT TIMES, THE LAST, TO REPLACE THE PACK!)

IT WASN'T HARD...JUST TIME CONSUMING!

I FEEL FOR YOU, FELLOW JEEPER!

I HATE A "FIXABLE PROBLEM", AND DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START!(NOT THE CASE WITH MY '77 CJ 5 OR '46 WILLYS)

MAYBE 2 YEARS AGO, I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE "ESCAPE", TO YOURS....AGAIN, NO CEL....STALLING, HAD TO "BABY" THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT RUNNING.

THIS WAS THE PROBLEMTHIS IS MINE/ HERS

I LOOKED UP YOURS...I HAD NO ENGINE INFO, SO I LOOKED UP THE 2.0L AND THE 2.4L ENGINES.......THE IAC NUMBERS ARE IDENTICAL...THIS ONE I LINKED TO IS THE 2.0L

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Performance/Idle-Air-Control-Motor/_/N-25di?filterByKeyWord=IAC&fromString=search

THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR IN LOOKS, TO THE WIFE'S.....SHOULD BE IN A SIMILAR LOCATION ALSO.

EVEN AT 600 MILES....MANY TIMES, I HAVE FOUND NEW STUFF TO BE BAD

I'M NOT SAYIN' RUN OUT AND BUY ONE.....YOU MIGHT REMOVE AND CLEAN YOURS...ACTUATE THE PLUNGER, MAYBE IT'S BENT OR SOMETHING STUCK IN IT, PREVENTING FREE MOVEMENT.....IT'S EZ TO REMOVE, INSPECT AND CLEAN IT....A CAN OF "THROTTLE BODY CLEANER" IS INEXPENSIVE, SO IS A GASKET, IF NEEDED.

WHILE IT'S OFF, CLEAN BOTH SIDES OF YOUR THROTTLE PLATE REAL GOOD, AND IN THE HOLE THE IAC WAS ON.

THE PICS I TOOK OF THE WIFE'S REALLY SHOW HOW EZ, AND WHAT THE UNDERSIDE SORTA LOOKS LIKE.......UNDERSTAND...THE PICS ARE OF THE FORD!

THIS IS JUST ONE POSSIBILITY, I PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED...AND CHEAP, TO MAYBE RULE IT OUT!

THIS MAY NOT FIX YOU (I HOPE IT DOES)...RETURN WITH A SMILE, IF I DETECT A FROWN....I WILL FIND YOU ANOTHER EXPERT....I PROMISE!

YOUR TURN,

THE MEDIC
