why does my power steering shut off automatically when i make a right turn?

Loss of power steering assist in only one direction is caused by internal leakage in the rack and pinion steering gear assembly. Typically it will be worse when the power steering fluid is still cold. Eventually the loss of assist will affect the other direction too.
