2008 Honda Accord battery charger maintainer

my 2008 Honda accord manuel says disconnect battery cables while charger maintainer is connected,is this necessary?

If you disconnect the battery, you won't need a long-term battery charger. It's the numerous computers that drain the battery when the engine is not running. Without a battery maintainer, you should still be able to start the engine after three weeks, but any longer is pushing your luck.
