engine oil leak

DEAR car pros:
i turnd on the car there was the check engine light on after a few minutes i saw white smoke under the hood i opened it and there was oil leaked over the engine and a little splashing oil on the engine

Check the valve covers for leaks. Go to a parts store and tell them you need some oil leak detection dye and a black light. Make sure the required amount of oil is in the engine. Pour the dye in and run the engine for about 5 minutes, observing the oil pressure gauge. If it doesn't read, or there is an indicator light, shut the engine off. Use the black light to locate the leak. It will show up as a bright yellow or orange color leading straight back to the source of the leak.
