Removal
WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery before disconnecting the starter motor battery terminal lead. If a tool is shorted at the starter motor battery terminal, the tool can quickly heat enough to cause a skin burn. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: A protective cap or boot is provided over the battery input terminal on all vehicle lines and must be installed after repairing.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the nut and position aside the starter motor battery cable bracket.
Remove the starter solenoid protective cap.
Label and disconnect the starter motor electrical connections.
Remove the top starter bolt and stud bolt.
Remove the lower starter bolt and the starter.
Installation
Position the starter motor and install the 3 bolts in 3 stages.
Stage 1: Install the 3 bolts finger tight.
Stage 2: Tighten the upper starter bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
Stage 3: Tighten the stud bolt and the lower starter bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
Connect the starter wiring.
Tighten the battery cable to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).
Tighten the solenoid wire to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
Install the starter solenoid protective cap.
Position back the starter motor battery cable bracket and install the nut.
Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
Connect the battery ground cable.
