How does the mirror housing open to allow replacement of the turn signal lamp unit in side door mirrors. Door side mirrors are heated type with chrome finish. This is on a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with 4.0 liter V6.

No info on the mirror. From my expierence, you cannot open the unit. Call the dealer service desk and ask them if it can be done or you may have to replace the entire mirror, as silly as it sounds.

OK - I'll plan on removing the entire mirror and making a visit to the dealership parts counter, but, come on guys, there must be a way to open the mirror. Attached is the part that goes in there.

OK you were right - the mirror cannot be opened. Here's the secret: rotate the mirror glass all the way in, and all the way up. That done you can see the light unit. Using a small 90 degree radiator hose picker or similar tool pry the light unit out. Unplug it, plug in the new one and snap it in. Took less than 1 minute!

There should be two or more screws under the mirror housing that should help to remove the casing. However, there is a possibility that at the time of opening, the mirror can break down; hence you should be ready with another one that you can buy from online stores like http://www.allusedparts.com/doormirror.html or others. But if you do it by a Phillips screwdriver with a soft cloth then chance of breaking will reduce. I hope it helps.
