Fault codes never say to replace parts. They only indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. While it's true a defective sensor or output device will be found to be bad about 50 percent of the time, your mechanic will perform tests on the wiring first to rule that out before potentially wasting money on a part that isn't needed.
