Hello!
I have 1997 Chevy Malibu, Its has 2 types of check engine lights. One is check engine and the other is service engine soon. There 2 different computers I guess but anyways, One night I started my car and the automatic lights are supposed to turn on they did but then I lost my dash lights and my back running lights and my service engine soon light came on. So I guess I lost my automatic lights. I still have headlights and back lights when I put my foot on the brake thats it, so my gauges have no light at night. I checked the fuses and they were good so I have no idea. And when I hooked it up to my obd2 reader nothing came up. Help, Please! Thanks!

Are you sure the second one says "Service Engine Soon" and not "Service Vehicle Soon"? You should be finding a code for the check engine light but if the other one says "Service Vehicle Soon", that would be a problem with the Body Control Module and that requires a professional scan tool and not just a generic code reader.

It is "Service Vehicle Soon"
And I do not have a BCM reader, Can I get that somewhere?
And any suggestions of what to look for first if I cant test it myself? Could it be the BCM itself?

Thanks!

Sure you can get one if you have $10K laying around. It could be dozens of things but you'll never know without the scan tool. You're going to have to pay for some help on this one.

Haha well Id rather pay 80 bucks, could it be the bcm itself?
If it might be, where is the BCM located?

Yes, among many other things but that would take some serious diagnostics to isolate that. It would also require factory programming if it were replaced.

It's located under the dash on the passenger side
