Do you have more then one key? If you do, are you getting the same message with the other key? If you do then that one key is bad. If both keys are an issue then you could call your local Volvo dealership to see if they are participating in the Volvo Service For life program? Here is the link.

Check it out and call them up. You should get a free system scan of the network to see if there are any communication faults between the control modules? Depending on how deep they need to get but I would expect to pay something if it is going to take more then an hour especially if they need to hook up break out boxes and start tearing down components? But at minimum you should get a print out of the codes and you can post them on here to see if we can go over them and see what is going on? You could have an issue with the key, the start control module, or maybe the central electronic module is not recognizing the key codes? But let me know what happens?

- Took it to the Volvo Dealer:
steering column lock module was bad (my guess too, after trying all I could) => $185+$10 parts + 3hrs labor to install & PROGRAM (!) [But I did get a free car wash! + Software upgrade] ; and now that part has a 2-yr warranty w/ Volvo Service For life.
