I turned on the ac in my Volvo and all of a sudden it sounded like a boat motor was running. Turned the ac off - no more boater motor sound. The ac does work and blows cold air. What's going on? Not a mechanic so if you can help me understand what this "could" be it will def help me shop around in pricing to get this repaired.

It sounds like the AC compressor is going bad. chances are it has a bad bearing or the clutch is going bad. Open the hood, start the engine, and turn the AC on to see if that is where the noise is coming from.

Let me know what you find.
