coil keeps burning out

Hello,

This happens when the fuel injector for that cylinder becomes weak which leans out the cylinder creating more work for the coil. Here is a guide that will walk you through the injector replacement.

I have a 2002 volkswagen golf gls 2.0. I had the coil pack issue engine was misfiring and I saw the arch coming out of the coil pack when it was damp out. I replaced the coil pack and new wires and everything was fine for about 6 months. Now my car is misfiring and engine is bucking violently. I replaced new spark plugs another new set of wires. Cleaned throttle body had fuel injectors rebuilt. Car will not move-starts runs violently until it stalls or I turn it off. Misfire codes in all cylinders and p102 error but removing the maf doesn't make a difference. Could this be the fuel pump relay? Should I replace the fuel filter? Could the coil pack go bad again. I'm at my wits end.

check fuel pressure first. if low replace fuel filter as well as pump. check egr if still misfiring for clogged or pieces in egr system. also check for holes in grommets or air leaks between maf and throttle body.

Is it possible that you mixed-up a couple of spark plug wires (the second time, since it ran fine the first time)?

2x2 post coil?

No EGR.

Forgot to mention that (from my experience) when a fuel pump goes bad, the engine either start or not at all.

A quick check of pump health can be checked via an inductive current clamp and a graphing multi-meter:

why would the coil over packs fail about every couple thousand miles. i replaced all four at first and since then one by one they have failed,and the shop says these are factory spec,and the best avail.anything else i could check thanks

Hi there,

I would be getting the tech to check the input voltages to the coil, that is about all i can think of, these coil over plug systems are very reliable and they never give trouble as you have mentioned, some times one will fail, but all 4 i would be looking at any constants with the system such as input voltages, start there.

Are you sure it is the packs failing or is it the plugs or boots?

There are better after market systems available if you look around, though the only reason you should need them is if you are running large amounts of boost off of a turbo.
