Toyota Tacoma temperature gauge / compass broken

The outside temperature and compass display in my Toyota Tacoma overhead console isn't working. Help?

'05 - '09 Tacoma temp and compass gauge displays commonly 'burn out' due to component failure on the circuit board; this is not due to a fuse, and the dealership charges $200 or more for the new part.
