The only clip I see go into the pad slots on the pad bracket

Does it matter what side of the pad it goes on. One on each front pad?

It should have one at both ends.

I purchased new calipers and each had 2 clips - 1 each per pad - not 4 in order to put 2 on each pad. Not sure if 2 on each pad will fit into the caliper slide.
