You will need to have the codes read to have any real idea of what's wrong. Toyotas throws those lights for something as simple as a bad gas cap. Get the code read at a local auto parts store to better answer your question

A code for vsc can't be read at auto parts a pro has to do it. Auto parts only can do engine/trans. Check the fuse and relay under hood for corrosion other than that it has to see what code it's throwing. It's your skid control is acting up.

My Camry did the exact same thing. My mechanic replaced one of the wheel sensors and it fixed it. Only a couple hundred dollars and the problem is gone

Six cylinder front wheel drive automatic 91,950 miles.

My "traction control off" is on and will not go off by pushing the traction control button. The traction control feature is not working. Any help you can give us to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi enidwinters,

This code comes up when one of the wheel speeds sensors have stopped working. Here is a video that will show you how to run the codes to see which one it is.

https://youtu.be/rTtAnsOlZU4

Here is a guide that will help you test the sensor if you do not have scanner.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/abs-wheel-speed-sensor-test

An error has been detected in the traction control system and you need to retrieve the trouble codes to understand what is wrong and proceed with diagnostics and rectification.

From the book:

RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
NOTE:
Some speed sensor DTCs cannot be retrieved using following procedure. See SPEED SENSOR DIAGNOSTICS for retrieving other speed sensor DTCs.
NOTE: DO NOT start engine when retrieving diagnostic codes.

ABS & TRAC OFF Light Diagnostics
1. Ensure battery voltage is 12 volts. Turn ignition switch to ON position. ABS, TRAC OFF and SLIP indicator lights should illuminate, then go out after 3 seconds. If warning lights do not illuminate, check fuses, bulbs, and appropriate wiring harnesses.

2. Using a jumper wire, jumper check connector terminals Tc and E1 of DLC1 or DLC2. See Fig. 1 -Fig. 2 . If a malfunction is detected, 4 seconds will elapse and ABS or TRAC OFF indicator light will begin to flash a 2-digit Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). First number of blinks will equal first digit in a code. After a 1.5-second pause, second number of blinks will equal second digit in a code.

3. If 2 or more codes are stored, there will be a 2.5-second pause between each code. After all codes are flashed, there will be a 4-second pause and all codes will repeat. If ABS and TRAC system are functioning normally, and no DTCs are present, ABS and TRAC OFF indicator lights will blink 2 times per second. For code definitions, see DTC DEFINITIONS table. After replacing or repairing components, clear diagnostic codes.

For speed sensor DTCs, connect jumper wire between terminals Ts and E1 of DLC1.

Here is how the wheel sensors are mounted.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Cheers

While Driving home on a 1 1/2 hour long trip in NYC area my ABS lite came on with a flashing "trac Off" lite flashing on then off. WHat does this mean? Is the car safe to drive? Are the wheels gonna come off on my way to work? Is this an easy fix or is it gonna cost a lot of bucks to repair?

Hi there,

This is still safe to drive, what has happened is that the ecu has logged a fault code for this system, and you will need a scan to get the code read, the light will normally stay on until this fault is resolved, until then the trac control & ABS will be in-op, so get the scan done first.

Hi! I have a 2006 Toyota Camry XLE 3.0 V6. Yesterday we went through a rain storm and afterwards the SVC, TRAC OFF and Engine Lights came on and have not gone off. The car is still running fine and brakes are still good. I have heard that disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable after a minute or so will solve the problem. Is this correct or could there be another problem?

I would go get a scan done as the engine check light is indicating that there is a logged fault code post the code here for further assistance.

I did disconnect the positive terminal of the battery cable and left it off for about 13-14 minutes and cleaned off the terminal as it had a lot of corrosion on it. This seemed to resolve the problem. I have checked out all possible electrical components to the radio (including all presets) as well as turned on and off all electronics and lights and everything in the vehicle seems to be working fine. I will however, take it to the dealer to scan all the fault codes as you suggested. Thanks for all your help. Cheers!

There will be no old codes now, with the battery disconnected they will be erased, only codes set since attaching the battery will be present. But as I type this, my partner looking over my shoulder has reminded me that her car (same make and model) did the same and after I cleared the codes it never came back. So there may be no need to scan, I would give it a few days and see if the light re sets or not.
