camry knock sensor error

If you replaced the sensor and checked wiring, it could deal with ignition timing. Has the timing belt ever been replaced?

No, never changed, never anyathing but serviced since new. what about water in gas or fuel filter?

Check the owner's manual for when they recommend the timing belt. I will assume that you have had it tuned up if the maintenance schedule has been followed.

I have to ask. Have you checked the knock sensor and the wiring to it? You mentioned that the light came back on. You also asked for ideas other than wiring or the sensor. Are you sure the sensor and wiring is good?

I have not tested the sensor or wiring but have inspected the wiring and cleaned the conection to the sensor. The engine light comes back on within a few seconds after restarting the car after reset.
As for tune-ups no never touched other than oil changes and air filters. 60 miles from a dealer.

If the light keeps coming on for the knock sensor, I think you should check the sensor itself. It is most likely bad. As far as a tune up, if it has 140K on it, it's due but I have some good news, the 07 has a timing chain (not a belt) so that is a good thing. I really feel the sensor is bad. Chances are it has an internal open circuit if the light comes right back on. If you can, check it for continunity to see if power will go through it.

Talked to a toyota tech today that said I was looking at the wrong sensor looks same but further back and that occationally mice get under the intake and chew the wire in a place that I cant see without taking the intake manifold off. So in the morning I will find out if that is the problem and test the sensor as well. Thanks

Let me know what you find. There are so many sensors on cars anymore, it's easy to mix them up.
