My back-up lights stay on when the car is either runing, or not running and not in reverse. Typically if I tap the top of the brake lights on the trunk they will go out. Sometimes I need to tap 4-5 times before they go out. 25% of the time they turn off and come back on later all by themselves. How do I correct this?

The only thing you can do in this case is trace the wiring to see where there is a short. It sounds like the wiring to the lights are getting power from a constant power supply.
