Car wont accelerate anymore past high RPM's

Hi,

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6 with about 63,000 miles on it. My check engine light came on about a week ago and thought it was nothing. After trying to pass someone on the highway, i realized that it would stop accelerating after high RPM's. The engine wouldn't stop, but the check engine light would blink and would just coast until RPM's came back down. Do you have an idea as to what may be wrong?
