What would cause my automatic transmission to be slow it shift and makes the engine rpms go to 4 to 5000 rpms. The only way it shifts is if I let off the gas and no codes are popping up?

The car starts and runs fine. It won't shift, it seems to be stuck in third gear because when you start out there is no power until you get up to speed. Once you hit about 60 mph the tach reads about 4000 rpm's and wont shift into the last high gear. It shifts into reverse fine. I replaced the transmission filter and fluid, it run fine for a little while. If you let the car sit over night it will shift fine for a bit then back to being stuck in that higher gear. Can you give me some advice.
Thank you,
mark mincer

This sounds like an input shaft speed sensor is bad but to be sure lets run the codes here is a guide to help with the sensor location in the diagrams below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Have a trans guy scan this, it's a shift solenoid problem which could be clutch or seal failures as well as another valve body problem or wiring issue. A fluid change will probably not hel p this.

Hi there,

This is the trans oil temp sensor circuit, is the oil dirty and smelly? You may have slippage problems, I would get this checked out by a trans specialist ASAP.

When you say it struggles, do you mean the idle is raising beyond when it would normally shift? When it does shift does it shift hard?

How often was the fluid changed and what does the condition of it look like?

IS there a check engine light on?

I would not say the transmission is good because it only works in reverse corectly.

When I start off the car drives fine then out of the blue I have no power. It is like the car is in neutral. When I tap the gas the engine does not rev and it last about thirty to sixty seconds and then it pops back into a gear. I then it goes for a bit and dies if I put the transmission into reverse. This has happened to me twice. Now after ten minutes of in and out the car runs fine. It has been four days in between episodes. What is causing this? I have checked the fluid and it is good. Please help.

My automatic wont shift into 3rd gear. Its fine when it goes into 1st and 2nd gear but as soon as it gets over 40mph it wont shift. The engine just revs and revs. I hear a clicking sound when it revs too. What could be the problem?
