Sunroof is currently not opening. Dealer says the 'cable' is broken and because of the design, a whole new unit (minus the glass) must be purchased at a parts cost of $900 plus and add'l $800 labor. Is there a less expensive alternative to have this fixed?

I can't find anything on this so it may correct but check with a place that installs sunroofs as they may repair them cheaper or know of parts. todays vehicles use mostly assemblies so you may be stuck with that.
