How do I start my car without my advanced key fab?

My husband went out of town and accidentally took my advanced key fab with him. I do have an extra regular key (not sure what it is called, but it looks like a regular key... Transponder key, maybe?). However, when I inserted the key into the ignition (after removing the plastic ignition switch cover that is usually in place), it will not turn to start the engine. Any advice?? I'm desperate!!

Turn the steering slightly to release the tension on the steering lock.
