engine noise

my son's 2007 Mazda3 (automatic) has a high pitched squeeling noise when he turns it on. It stays on, as long as the engine is running. What might be going on?

probably a slipping belt or a bad bearing in the belt sytem somewhere. maybe the alternator bearings or belt idler pulley bearings. use a tube or auto stethescope to try and find it.
