After doing a complete head gasket job on my '07 Malibu, the speedometer does not work and the transmission shifts rough. Is this a PCM problem or something got disconnected? The engine runs well. Is this something that I can troubleshoot at home?

It sounds like the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) was disconnected or damaged. Check that. Also, if the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for possible transmission trouble codes.

Thanks! Your diagnostic was 100% correct. The speed sensor was disconnected and I hooked it back up first thing today. She is now shifting smooth and the speedometer is fully operational.
