I made a u-turn, and upon turning the steering wheel all the way to the left (as far as it would go), my car died. It's an automatic transmission, and it started right back up. But just curious what would cause this to happen...security feature??

If you forced the steering, it placed a heavy load on the engine that must have caused it to stall. If it continues, have the idle air control valve checked to make sure it is working properly.
