What does the tensioner belt look like in the car?

You may be referring to the alternator belt, it is a drive belt that attaches to the front engine pulley. water pump and alternator, to adjust tension you slacken of the top and bottom alternator bracket bolts and apply tension by moving the alternator to tension the belt.
