This is a bit thin, whaty does it smell like? Burning electrical? Burning oil? Burning rubber? Any sounds associated with it?

That would be your catalytic converter, and it wouldnt hurt to get it checked, Federal regulation syas this is covered for 8 years and or 80,000 miles, whichever is first.
