Sudden drop in speed

Jeep Commander 2007 Vehicle speed suddenly drops from 70 on highway to 40 and won't accelerate at all even when pedal is pushed to floor. No dashboard lights indicate problem

Are you sure there are no lights on? It sounds like you have a problem with the "drive by wire" throttle system. It uses dual sensors and when one has a problem, it defaults to half throttle. Check it for stored trouble codes.
