Noisy Engine

There appears to be a noisy lifter, my mechanic removed engine sump and checked pickup for any sludge build up, everything appeared very clean, he then replaced genuine oil filter and filled the sump with 5w-30 grade oil Synthetic. Would this still be a warrantee claim? is this a major job??
