My cruse control does work and does maintain the speed at which I set it. However when the car needs to excel rate to maintain speed, the speeds drops to around 5mph below what it is set at before the CC kicks in, then it will not release until the speed is around 5mph over the set speed. Then it will stabilize at the set speed. I have had this car sense new and never had this problem.

Try cleaning the throttle plate on both sides with coke cleaner and iac hole. It may be a tad sticky if it still does it then have a pro check for cruise control main switch test and cruise control input test. It may be a short or poor connections as well though. Also due to age of vehicle check battery for condition including load test most places do for free

Thank you, I will clean the throttle body first.
I can check for bad connections and or shorts, but I do not know where the components are located.
My battery is good.

Everything is done through the pcm so it 's probably one of the other things I mentioned. One other thing if you have a trailer hitch that has aftermarket wiring that may be some of the problem.
