The car was in idle and there was a sudden screeching sound and smoke from the hood. There was a burning smell and a small amount of clear oily fluid from underneath the passenger side of the engine. Just had the timing belt changes as routine maintenance a month ago. Could it be the timing belt? I turned the car off immediately and had it towed.

Is your AC working? It could be a sticky AC clutch relay causing the AC to run all the time and over pressurizing the system.
