I recently hit the curb with my honda and pushed the front end of the muffler in 2 inches and it crumpled in about 1 inch. I noticed the car rattling a slight bit when the engine is on. I was told by a mechanic it would have to get changed within a month to month and a half and it would cost me in the range of $500 to $1000 including labour.
i would appreciate your input on this matter.
please and thank you,
rene

That must be quite the special muffler. A stainless steel replacement through the dealer for my '88 Grand Caravan six years ago would have cost me $180.00. Instead I bought a cheap replacement and I'm on my third one now. They rust out every two years.

If the muffler isn't rubbing on anything there's no need to replace it as long is it's not restricting exhaust flow. I don't know what makes yours so expensive but I'd sure avoid replacing it if possible.
