2007 Honda Civic -
103,000 mi. Last year I had a crack in my engine block (got it replaced courtesy of Honda - there was a notice for 2006-2007 Civics). @ The beginning of 2010 my car started having issues, specifically while accelerating. It only happens when I gently press the gas. Between 15-20mph the car shudders as if on gravel. Once I reach above 20mph there are no noises, no issues, and if I accelerate very quickly from a stop I don't have the jerking at all, although it does seem to me that the RPMs run a bit higher than normally required for acceleration. It is ONLY when I gently press the pedal, usually from a stop. Again, doesn't shudder until specifically 15-20MPH. I am terrified it is the transmission, and hopeful it may just be the timing, but I'm too afraid to go to a shop to get it looked at. I've been ripped off a lot and I don't want them to insist I have to do a 3500 dollar transmission replacement rather than an 80 dollar serpentine belt/chain replacement. Help?

The lamp is nt on, and no, I have not tried to retrieve trouble codes...are they the same codes they check @ emissions? I just got a "clean bill of health" from the emissions people about a month or two ago.

Yes, it is similar but since the emission people passed the vehicle before the problem occurred, it is advisable to get it scanned again to check.

The best way to go about is toplug in a scan tool and go for a test drive and monitore the various driving conditions to see what component is running out of specs.
