My car was stolen and recovered a week later. The thief messed up the immobilizer and put a different ECU and the car keeps cranking but not starting. So I towed the car to dealer to fix it. Finally, a new immobilizer was installed and the original ECU was reconnected, dealer did some programming so the car can start. However, when I drive the car, I found that the instrument gauges has a problem. Speedometer, RPM, temperature gauges are not working (needle not moving at all), the number on the odometer and trip meter are not changing while driving. The only one working is the fuel gauge. Besides, the lights on the instruments work. The engine light is on. The dealer said it could be the problem of dash harness, but not sure. I am wondering it is related to a fuse or the ECU?

Hello,

This could be a problem with your vehicle's gauge control module. I have included in the diagrams down below a comprehensive explanation, troubleshooting, and diagnostic worksheets, as well as wiring diagrams for this system on your vehicle. Please go through them and get back to us with what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you, SCWICKEDSTANG. I just did the Self-Diagnostic, it shows Error 1. So what should I do next?

One thing I want to mention is that the thief did put a different ECM when the car was stolen. When the dealer fix the cranking but not starting problem, they reconnect to my original ECM and replace immobilizer, car starts. Right now, only the fuel gauge works. One interesting thing is that the Outside Temperature functions, because when I check it in the morning and night, it shows different number.

And again, thank you!

Hi, Alex,

I used a OBDII car scan tool and it showed "FCAN Malfunction (Gauge Control Module-ECM/PCM". It seems not very helpful. However, the app can give me information about RPM, speed, coolant temperature.
Do you have any thought?

Thank you!
