My car is overheating. It will drive for about 5 miles fine. After the gauge on the temp will start going up to hot. It has antifreeze, and oil. Would could be the problem?

Check the cooling fans. Did you check the level of the anti-freeze at the radiator or only at the recovery tank?

Yes, the anti-freeze was at the "max" level. I believe it was at the recovery tank? I havent checked the cooling fans. I took it to a mechanic shop this morning, i would just like to know the worse possible scenario to expect.

Thank you!! :)

It could be the cooling fans not working or a stuck thermostat. If coolant in radiator is full, then there should not be much of a problem except for what I have outlined.

Hello again! The mechanic said there was a leak in my radiato. He has to poor water in it to.see where its leaking from. Can the leak be patched up, or would the whole radiator have to be replaced? What would be the cost for either one?

Thanks again!

The top and bottom tank of the radiator can be replace but if it is the core, a complete radiator replacement would be necessary.

Cost varies according to location so it is best to check locally. Try the junk yard, you might be able to get a good one at a reasonable cost.
