Hi.
My Holden Barina keeps stalling randomly. Ill be driving along and all of a sudden, the check engine light cuts in and the engine dies after 5 seconds. You sometimes have to wait until you can restart it for a minute or too. Ive had it serviced several times and holden cant find anything wrong with it. It sounds like it isn't chainging gears when in drive, but ive tried changing gears manually and it still stalls. Before I got it serviced, it used to start straight away and only stall when idolling at intersections.
Just before stalling, it makes a loud revving noise and sometimes kicks back in but othertimes I have to wait to restart it. Mostly it cuts out without warning. Ive replaced fuel injectors, temperature sensors, everything but still cant find the problem.
Any help you can give is appreciated greatly.

Hi there.

A ECU scan will pick up any set fault code, the check light is an indication that a code has been set, I would also have the idle control system & vacuum leaks checked as well

My Holden barina keeps stalling and then cuts out when battery light appears on dashboard. My mechanic changed, fuel pump, fuel filter, carburetor. Had a new battery fitted by RAC in Perth, Australia not long before problem started. Sent to auto electrician and they suggested change alternator, but it may not fix the problem. My mechanic has tested alternator and says it does charge the battery, so it can't be that. My mechanic can't seem to find the problem or reasons why this keeps happening on occasion. It's a safety risk to drive since I don't know when it may stall on the road or in traffic.

What light comes on when it dies? Did anyone check the fuseable link between the alt and the battery? Is the battery dead when it dies?

Battery light comes on when it cuts out. Car starts again afterward every time. Not sure if mechanic checked fuseable link. He insists battery n alt is fine since he tested it. Strangely it never happens when he had the car to fix it. It cut out a few times in winter whilst we drove it on the highway or in traffic. I drove it this morning for 30 km and it was fine. So not sure what it could be. Hubby insists I can't drive it to work (1hr) away, unless its sorted.

OK I have no info on your car so I need to ask some questions so I can try to help you. Is you car carburated or injected? How does it stall does just cut off like you turned off the key or does it act like it running out of gas.

OK good but a G13A tells me nothing as I have no data base on this car it wasn't made for the states. I know it is an Izusu power plant so I intend to use that to try to help with you problem. I do need to know if it is injection or carburation? Get back to me with that so I can try to help.

My car is carburettor, I cannot adjust to idle. I think my RPM high that is why, I have a problem when shiffting in to gear. For example from park when moving to reverse or sometimes to drive, the engine stop. I find it revs must be high but I could not adjust it to take it down. I don't hame RPM or tachometer to know how high it run.

Ok so I would check the idle control soloniod and mixture control soloniod. Could you include a pic or two of your carburator so I can see what all is on it for controls? Thanks.
