Low fuel light

I drive a 2007 Ford f-150, last night I had 3/4 tank of fuel, this morning the low fuel light came on, with no sign of a gas leak, any idea what the problem is?

Two things come to mind. 1) Fuel theft 2) a faulty sending unit

There was no fuel theft, someone else I talked to mentioned that the actual floater in the fuel tank which measures how much fuel is in the tank could be stuck, is this a possibility?
