I have a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Limited with the 4.6L V8. I bought it last June with 96K miles and it now has 107K. The shifting is very sluggish and when stopping, it seems like the shift to first doesn't take place until after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. I don't know when or if a transmission flush or drain and fill were done, but I need to get it resolved before I take it on an 800+ mile trip in a couple of weeks. Suggestions?

The upshift pattern is sluggish...seems to take longer than necessary between gears, but it's not 'hard' like it is when downshifting to 1st.

changing the fluid will most likely not help any at this point. the damage is already done internally. from the sounds of it, the previous owner never serviced the trans resulting in this issue.
