Problems shifting out of first

Hey. Today twice I've noticed when I first start driving my SUV it won't come out of first unless I pull over put it in park and reengage to drive and then it works fine. Any idea where the problems lays. I had a new transmission put in last year.

Hi and welcome to 2CarPros.

It sounds like you may have a sicking valve in the valve body. If it is only a year old it may still be under warranty. Could to take it to the people who did the job and maybe get it resolved for free? You may also want to put a scanner on the car and make sure you don't have any trouble codes.
